Flag state
The flag state is the country where a vessel is registered. Its law governs the vessel, and its maritime administration sets the rules for registration, safety equipment, manning and surveys.
Why does the flag state matter to a yacht manager?
The flag decides which certificates the yacht must carry, how often it must be surveyed, what safety equipment is required and what qualifications the crew need. Two identical yachts under different flags can have different compliance calendars. Commercial yachts are also subject to the flag’s commercial yacht code.
How FleetView OS handles it
Each vessel has its own document register, so the certificates and expiry dates follow that vessel’s flag requirements rather than a generic list.
